Fall In New England

This was our third road trip since retiring. We left home on September 17 and returned on October 22, 2019. We traveled through North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts

Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park
We began our trip to New England by driving through part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We spent the first night at Peaks of Otter Lodge and the next day traveled on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. We spent two nights in the Big Meadow Lodge.

Vermont
We traveled through Vermont twice during our trip. At the beginning of our trip we drove north on the western section of Vermont to Lake Champlain. After leaving Lake Champlain we traveled through the Green Mountains to Stowe and then south to New Hampshire. We also ended our trip in Vermont by driving through more of the Green Mountains up Scenic Highway 100. Then we explored the Bennington area and northwestern Massachusetts.

New Hampshire and White Mountains
We also visited New Hampshire twice on our trip. The first part of our trip we spent in the White Mountains. At the end of our trip we drove through southern New Hampshire on the way to Vermont.
2019
Mountains of Western Maine
From the White Mountains of New Hampshire we drove to the White Mountains in Maine. We stayed at Rangely Lake and did a round trip on scenic highways through this area of Maine.
2019
Acadia
We spent one week in Acadia. While there we stayed at the Otter Creek Inn. In addition to spending most of our time on Mount Desert Island we also traveled one day to the Schoodic Peninsula.
2019
Coastal Maine
After leaving Acadia we traveled south along the coast spending time in the Camden and Rockland area, Boothbay Harbor, several islands, and Portland. After leaving the coast we traveled back through southern New Hampshire and Vermont on the way home.
2019
Covered Bridges
New England is famous for its covered bridges. We used several online and print resources to locate as many as we could along the way through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
2019
Flora of New England
We visited three botanical gardens during our trip: the Wild Gardens of Acadia, Asticou Gardens also in Acadia, and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Of course we saw other flowers and leaves all along the way of the trip.
